Sega Mini Console Gives Nintendo A Run For Their Money With 80 Built-In Games

Hoping to steal—or at least share—some of Nintendo’s retro gaming thunder, the UK’s Funstock Retro recently announced that this fall they’ll be selling a special Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Edition of AtGames’ SEGA Mega Drive (known to us Yanks as Genesis).

This compact game console will come with 40 “full” SEGA games and another 40 bonus arcade/puzzle games, for a total of 80 built in. What’s more, you’ll be able to play all your Genesis titles with its working cartridge slot, along with any compatible titles you download off the Interwebs via an SD card slot.
The recently announced Mini NES comes with 30 built in, and isn’t expandable beyond those.

Another plus on the SEGA side is that this system comes with dual wireless controllers, so you’re ready to go with 2P action right out of the box, without having to buy a separate accessory.

In fact, the only downside is that it comes with a regular old A/V cable to convey the 16-bit graphics, as opposed to the preferred HDMI.

The system—along with a handheld version that won’t play cartridges—will be available in October for R863, with these 80 games built in:
