Dodge is giving us the chance to get Dodge Challenger Demon-style wide bodywork on a regular, non-Demon Challenger Hellcat. This runs the risk of making the new Widebody sound like a poser, but when you’ve got 707 supercharged horsepower, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody is anything but.
Though we found the regular Hellcat to be plenty capable on a road race track, the Widebody’s flared fenders enclose 20 x 11-inch “Devil’s Rim” split-five spoke aluminum wheels and 305/35ZR20 Pirelli P-Zero high-performance tires, which contribute to a 2.0-second-per-lap advantage on a 1.7-mile circuit.
Quarter-mile acceleration also improves by 0.3 seconds, to 10.9 seconds, and 0-60 mph times drop a tenth, to 3.4 seconds.
Those are six-piston Brembo front brake calipers squeezing two-piece 15.4-inch rotors to help bring things under control from the Widebody’s 195-mph top speed.
A splitter under the front bumper, borrowed from the Demon, contributes to aerodynamic stability at speed, while ram air intakes within the inside light rings boost power when the car is traveling at high velocity.
Unlike the Demon, the Hellcat Widebody is available with a six-speed manual transmission in addition to an eight-speed automatic.
The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody will be available B5 Blue (late availability), Billet Silver, Destroyer Grey, F8 Green (late availability), Go Mango, Granite Crystal, IndiGo Blue (late availability), Maximum Steel, Octane Red, Pitch Black, Plum Crazy (late availability), Redline Tri-Coat, TorRed, White Knuckle and Yellow Jacket.
Look for deliveries to dealers to begin in the third quarter of this year.
