You Could Catch Fire In This R15,000 Shirt – Literally

When you pay top dollar for your clothes, you usually do so with the expectation that the extra money has some sort of benefit. You might pay a little extra for your t-shirt because the fabric is lighter or heavier, or maybe dole out the dough on a blazer because girls think they are sexy.

Well, for the guys who splurged on one of Givenchy’s recent t-shirt designs, things are getting a bit heated. According to fashion litigation website The Fashion Law, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission forced the French brand to recall a design from their Spring / Summer 2016 collection because the silk shirts “fail to meet the federal flammability standard for wearing apparel and pose a risk of burn injury to consumers.”

In English? Get to close to an open flame, and you could end up going up in smoke.

It’s a bit of a scandal as 60 of the tunics have already been sold in the U.S. by luxury outlets like Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. If you were one of the group to purchase the design, return them immediately to get a full refund. Reports say they were being sold for any where between R10,000 to R20,000.
